Other Cases

1. The Stealing of Baby Harley – the harrowing account of Police and Social Services taking the 13-week baby who is allergic to industrial milk and thus dependent on his mum’s milk

2. The Abduction of the Six Children of the M-Family – who are threatened with prison unless their stories are removed from the web – with these articles by Christopher Booker in the Sunday Telegraph:

every normal principle of British justice has been stood on its head

of 7,340 applications for care orders made by social workers, only 20 were refused (in 2008)

the vast fostering industry, run by dozens of agencies, often owned by ex-social workers, which also receive £20,000 a year for each child they place

another purpose of the system is to ensure that as many children as possible are adopted (at a copst of £36,000 per placement) in accordancy with Tony Blair’s personal commitment a decade ago that the target for adoptions in Britain should rise by 40%.

Councils are still receiving millions of pounds a year for meeting adoption targets

… to protect the identity and interests of the children, but secrecy has been so extended that its real aim is to protect the system itself and all those who do so well out of it.

“cases represent only an untypical minority of the total – less than 10%” – in general, the system is working fine…

of around 8,000 applications made each year for care orders, only one in 400 is refused…

this only confirms that we indeed have a national scandal on our hands.

I have now followed dozens of cases where children are seized from their parents by social workers on the flimsiest of evidence, and where the parents then find themselves in the clutches of a system rigged against them in every way.

One of the most disturbing features of this system, which protects itself behind a wall of secrecy, is how far it goes to ensure that aggrieved parents are represented only by lawyers who are themselves accomplices of the system.

4. A most literary expression of a mother whose child was ‘given’ to the abusive father

My situation is identical to Vicky Haigh’s. I am appalled at how many mothers are finding themselves in this situation when they turn to those who are supposed to be in the position of helping families in trouble, who then turn on them for blowing the whistle on abuse. I am horrified that responsible parents have nowhere to turn in crisis and are persecuted by the very authorities who are supposed to be there to help them.

Mothers are often damned for reporting abuse, children disbelieved and parents accused of coaching and emotional abuse which can neither be proven or disproven but it an arbitrary term widely abused by those in authority who victimise innocent mothers who turn to them when their children make allegations. There appears to be no common sense and no support for the innocent children or mothers who try to protect them, leading more and more mothers to make the terrifying but brave choice of flight as the only option of protecting their young…often with dire consequences.

I know there are situations where vindictive parents fabricate complaints against an ex partner, but these cases are few and far between and yet it appears that the majority of cases now reported are put down as vindictive acts on the part of one of the parties without any proper investigation. When a mother is falsely accused of deliberately turning her child against a father, she is placed in an impossible situation.

They cannot prove this is the case, but because they close ranks against the mother who has innocently turned to them for help and in despair, the mother becomes increasingly alienated, isolated and may take desperate action outside of the legal system as the only door left open to her. Mothers do not do this on a whim, but having exhausted all other avenues of getting fair and just treatment by the authorities and the Courts which in many cases are patriarchal and often mysognyistic in their approach.

One wonders what issues some of the Judges sitting on these case have themselves when they so quickly make assumptions against parents often on the grounds that they “prefer” one party over the other. Often the person they support is in a stronger position financially, is not trying to care for a child at the same time as trying to cope with the stress that the family court system puts one through.

What has the world come to when educated women, with no axe to grind and are good mothers with their children’s best interests at heart are victimised in this way and driven from their homes, jobs and families as forced to flee? In cases where children are at risk from violence and abuse, the authorities very often don’t step in because they fear repercussion from people who are not afraid to take the law into their own hands.

I know of many cases where children are at risk but from sources amongst the police force I know that they do not step in because the family has a reputation for violence or drugs and they fear the consequences of such action. The amount generated for the so called experts in cases such as Vicky’s and indeed my own is phenomenal and even more so when the family has money and will go on spending long thousands to try to get justice and the return of their child who they often have lost on the basis of lies, fabrications, assumptions and a closing of ranks as one official backs another’s view, passing it along the line in a series of Chinese Whispers.

We need to break the silence. England is supposed to be a country of free speech and public awareness needs to be raised to protect innocent mothers and their offspring. Any family can be labelled on the most tentative and spurious allegations as has been demonstrated by so many cases that have come to my attention. I can only encourage those who are able to speak to do so and vehemently. One voice may not make a difference, but many voices make change!

    • Dear Fellow Sufferer,
I can’t tell you how help- and powerless I feel in the face of a situation such as yours and Vicky’s!

But at least this blog is an attempt to ‘break the silence’.

What abhors me most in the little I’ve seen is that the judge involved sanctions what Doncaster Council has been up to.

But then they clearly just use the accoutrements of courts to get what they want.

Public awareness in the Public Interest, that’s all I can do for now, I fear. At least all my posts go out to Twitter! But nothing seems enough! Not even what John Hemming MP is doing!…

“COURAGE” is all I can say for now…

      With all my heart,

      Sabine

      • Dear Jim

        I can’t do more than I’m doing, I’m afraid.

I’m caring for my mum first and foremost.

I wrote to her that putting her case on the website would mean having to look at 17 of her emails to write a summary. But that won’t help her. It only shows yet another case!

        I’m sorry, Jim,

It doesn’t help to pressure me.

Subject: Freedom of Information request – Questions regarding looked after children.

    Dear Haringey Borough Council,

I would like to ask the following questions
    1. How often do Social care staff go on statutory visits to looked
after children in their foster contract placements?.

    2. Are the social workers who are allocated to the children,
routinely check for certain issues, for instance child abuse in the
    placement?.

    3. Do the birth parent of the Looked after child get notified
straight away of any concerns after statatory visits?
    4. Regarding medical tests, are the birth parents invited, as they
still have parental responsibility of their child?.

    5. What are the procedures and guidelines if the child makes any
    allegations?

    6. How many professionals meetings, within the first year of foster
care placement are there. And or are the foster contract carers
    present.

    7. What is the annual turnover for foster contract carers “in
house” and private “agency” foster carers.

    8. Are ALL the relatives and associates of foster contract carers
screened by enhanced CRB checks prior or during the foster
    placement.

    9. If a child makes an allegation, does the allocated social worker
    visit the child straight away?

    10. Are children offered an independant advocate, such as VOICE if
not, then can you explain why?

    Yours faithfully,

    Melizza Moore
